Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a contract between you and Runners High Group Limited ("we", "us", the "Operator") governing your use of the Bet On Yourself app (the "App"). By creating a dare or saving a card, you agree to these Terms.
1. What Bet On Yourself is, and is not
Bet On Yourself is a commitment device, not a game of chance and not gambling. You stake your own money against your own real-world goal and a deadline you set. There is nothing to win. You cannot profit or take anyone else's money. If you succeed, you pay $0. If you don't, your stake is forfeited as described below. There is no prize, no pooling of funds, and no element of chance.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live if higher (for example 19 in some Canadian provinces), and able to form a binding contract, and you must use a valid payment method that belongs to you. You are responsible for compliance with your local laws.
3. How a dare works
- You set the stake and the clock.
- Arming places a hold, not a charge. We authorize (hold) your card for the stake through our payment processor. No money is charged at this point.
- You beat the clock → the hold is released and you are charged $0.
- You miss the clock → the stake is captured (charged) and forfeited. A captured stake becomes our revenue. We then donate 80% of it to a registered charity, which you may choose from a short list in the App to direct our giving, and keep 20% to cover payment fees and running the App. The donation is made by us, in our own name, as our own corporate gift: you are not making a donation and will not receive a donation or tax receipt. The App does not collect donations or fundraise. The App shows where this month's missed stakes are going, and we will share donation totals on request.
- Only your device's declaration captures the money. Silence never captures: an unresolved hold is released, not charged.
4. Currency
Stakes are held and charged in Canadian dollars (CA$, CAD). If your card is in another currency, your card issuer converts the amount and may charge foreign-exchange fees, so the amount on your statement can differ slightly from the stake you set. We do not receive those fees.
5. Forfeited stakes are final
A captured stake is final; that finality is the point of the product, and you acknowledge it each time you arm a dare. This does not limit any refund right that the law where you live gives you. If you were charged in error, contact us within 14 days at support@betonyourselfapp.com and we will correct it.
6. Your ceiling
You set a ceiling (the most any single dare can cost) in the App before any money is at risk, and the App will not let you arm above it. Our server also refuses any single dare above CA$250. Changes apply to future dares.
7. The witness (optional)
You may name a witness who receives a receipt (amount, outcome, your name) when you miss. The witness is passive: they do not verify, approve, judge, or receive any money. You are responsible for having that person's consent to be contacted.
8. Payments and your card
Card details are entered and stored with our payment processor (Stripe), never typed into or stored by the App. You authorize us to place holds and capture charges consistent with these Terms and your in-app actions.
9. Disputes and chargebacks
If you dispute a captured stake, we may submit evidence of the dare you set to the processor. Initiating a chargeback for a legitimately missed dare is a breach of these Terms and may result in suspension.
10. Acceptable use
No fraud, no payment methods that aren't yours, no attempts to manipulate or evade the dare mechanics, and no automated access. We may suspend or terminate accounts that misuse the App.
11. No warranty
The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability is limited to the stakes you forfeited to us in the three (3) months before the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms; material changes are reflected by the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, in-app notice. Continued use means you accept them.
14. Governing law and your rights
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction, except where local consumer law gives you non-waivable rights. Nothing in these Terms limits rights the law where you live gives you.
15. Language
These Terms are available in several languages. If you live in Quebec, the French version prevails over any other version, and you and we have expressly requested that these Terms be drawn up in French.
